20 Mule Team Borax | Review

20 Mule Team Borax

Though it’s been around since 1891 (that’s 131 years, folks), I only discovered 20 Mule Team Borax one year ago. I’ve mention before that since we are living in West Texas the water is hard as hard can be and I was trying to find a way to keep my laundry clean, bright, and white without constantly washing in hot water or using bleach (I’m not the biggest fan of using bleach on our clothes). A couple of my cousins are big proponents of making their own laundry detergent and when I talked with them about what they used, they both said Borax was the biggest help in their homemade detergent. I did a little more reading on it, picked up a box at the store, and have used it religiously since. It works!!

20 Mule Team Borax

I’ll usually buy a few boxes and then empty them into a container to scoop from when doing a load of laundry. One of the reasons I am really happy using Borax is that is’ 100% natural, made of sodium tetraborate, a substance produced by the perpetual evaporation of seasonal lakes. Driving from Texas to Southern California and back again, we’ve often driven by the Borax plant and it’s quite the sight! It’s a testament to this being a natural mineral product.

Borax has helped so much with our hard water, I am so happy to have found it, but disappointed that it took me so long! It’s not called “20 Mule Team” for nothing. As a laundry booster, it works hard to soften our water, which maximizes the effectiveness of our laundry detergent. I just use 1/2 a cup per load of laundry, so one big box lasts a long time.

Borax goes beyond the laundry. There’s a whole list of ideas for its use on the back of the box. It’s a very affordable option for laundry and household cleaning, too. I don’t think a box costs more than $4, and because it’s so versatile, natural, and effective, you really couldn’t ask for much more!

Borax is available in the laundry aisle of most national retailers, you can find if a store near you carries it by clicking here. Be sure to like Borax on Facebook and sign up for the Borax newsletter here, so you can stay up-to-date on new products and promotions, as well as coupon offers!
