Exergen TemporalScanner with Smart Glow Features | Video Review

exergen thermometer

Last year I reviewed one of my favorite "parent" products - the Exergen TemporalScanner. It made taking temperature practically fool-proof and has been my go-to thermometer for our family. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than that, Exergen, as if reading the minds of a million parents, has released the new Exergen TemporalScanner with Smart Glow features. When you've got a sick child whose finally asleep, there's no way you'd want to wake them! With the new Exergen TemporalScanner with Smart Glow, not only can you mute the beeper, but you can utilize the soft-glow display to get your temperature reading - even in the dark! Have you ever seen the show Ghost Hunters? I'm a big fan and they do a lot of work "in the dark" with fun tools that help them "read" paranomal activity. Well, to share with you all the great features of the Exergen TemporalScanner with Smart Glow Features, I made a little Ghost Hunters spoof video. Rather than hunting for ghosts, I hunt for … [Read more...]

Breaking Free of the Bra ABCs with JOCKEY bra Fit Kit | #JOCKEYbra Review

jockey bra fit kit volumetrics review

When I was in college I worked at a popular boutique lingerie store in the mall. I was one of their "bra specialists," which meant that I received special training to size and fit women into the best fitting bras. When I received said training, I was surprised to find out so little went into what constituted measuring someone for a bra. I knew that women were more than just A B C, etc., and there were some bra brands that even tried going for "almost A," or "perfectly B," but I knew there had to be more to it! Enter the new Bra Fit Kit from JOCKEY, where women are more than just a mold, more than just letters attached to a number. JOCKEY uses volumetrics to help women find the perfect fit all around their breast and provides a method of comprehensive bra sizing you can do in the comfort of your own home.   After eight years of development, scanning over 800 women, and holding 26+ patents, JOCKEY has developed this new system of bra measurements which truly speaks … [Read more...]

rise of the guardians easter basket

Just in time for Easter baskets, Rise of the Guardians will be released on DVD and Bluray this week! But be sure to look out for the special packaging that includes little Easter Egg hoppers! Based on William Joyce's the Guardians of Childhood book series, Rise of the Guardians is a gorgeously animated film about Boogeyman Pitch Black's attempts to spread darkness and fear throughout the world and the guardians' attempts to foil him. Charged with the duty of watching over the children of the world, guardians Sandman, North, Tooth, and E. Aster Bunnymund are loved by children everywhere. When the Man in the Moon appoints Jack Frost to be the newest guardian, the other guardians doubt that Jack can be of much help against Pitch, especially considering that the children don't even believe in Jack Frost's existence. But when Pitch prevents Tooth from collecting the children's teeth, keeps E. Aster Bunnymund from hiding eggs on Easter, and turns the children's happy dreams into … [Read more...]

July Conscious Box | Review

conscious box vegan box

One of the best product discovery boxes available, Conscious Box focuses on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. For $12 a month, plus $7 shipping, you'll receive a box full of a variety of full-sized and sample-sized products. The July Conscious Box theme was "The Simple Joys of July" and was all about embracing the little joys in life and staying healthy on-the-go. This box definitely lived up to its theme! It was heavy and filled to the brim, I don't think there was a single waste of space in this month's Conscious Box! It was difficult to even get a decent picture with everything in the frame! As far as the box contents go, for me there was only one or two products I was already familiar with, so I was blown away with all the great companies and products I could discover. Here's a peek inside: All Natural Face Eyeshadow in Peach Ice Aura Cacia full-sized bottle of essential oil in Sweet Orange ($4.15) - Orange just happens to be … [Read more...]

Last month I received my first Wittlebee box and wasn't too impressed. Kiwi Crate June Box: Busy with Bugs

kiwi crate june box busy with bugs

Around the middle of the month, my oldest daughter Emma stalks the mailbox watching for her Kiwi Crate to come. It's always exciting to see what's inside and what she gets to do - and I'm sure thankful for it this summer because it's hot, and I mean hot, and a lot of our afternoons have to be spent indoors. This month's theme was Busy with Bugs and had all the things needed to make a glowing firefly zipline and bug paintings. Plus, this month's box included insect fact cards that had fun information and art opportunities on the back. Our Kiwi Crate box this month was just overflowing with stuff to do! I didn't have to provide any additional materials, they were all included. I want to mention that I love, love, love Kiwi Crate's attention to detail. For instance, the pencil included in this month's box had bugs all over it - they could have included a regular yellow pencil, but this was a really nice touch. Also, the "zipline" provided for the firefly … [Read more...]

mabel's labels write away

I'm really excited to share with you a brand new product from Mabel's Labels that I think is perfect for just about everyone! Oransi Fridge Air Purifier | Review & Giveaway

OI939-2

I'm always on the hunt for fresh produce. Since we live in a rather isolated town in West Texas, I have few options for really good, fresh fruits and vegetables. There's a certain store on the other side of town that I swear their produce lasts the longest of any that I've come across so far and that's where we usually get our groceries. But sometimes, even the best intentions need a little help. I've recently come across the Oransi Fridge Air Purifier and I like to think of it as my little magician in the back of the fridge. Since using it, I've noticed that our produce stays crisper longer and our dairy stays fresher. We've got a little trip coming up and I full anticipate not coming home to spoiled food! The Oransi Fridge Air Purifier is an economical way to refresh any kitchen. This small kitchen gadget (it’s only 2” x 4” – about the size of a large lemon) easily fits into any fridge and silently removes all bacteria and odors through ionic technology. As I mentioned, it helps … [Read more...]

Imperial Toy Outdoor Summer Fun | Review

turbine

There is really nothing my kids love more than bubbles. I always think of the line from the film Knocked Up, "I wish I loved anything as much as my kids love bubbles." They are magic and, for us, it's one of our favorite things to do outside! Now that here in West Texas we've jumped from winter straight into summer weather, we're outside more and looking for fun things to do. Not only does Imperial Toy have some of the best and most inventive bubble products out there, they've got some really fun water balloon toys, too! My kids were most excited about the "glowing bubbles." Super Miracle Bubbles Glow Fusion is a fun and creative way to play with bubbles. The Hi-Beam Sabre looks like a big bubble wand, but the coolest thing, and most appealing to my kids, is that it "glows." To make the glowing bubble solution, we had to use the provided Infusion Activators and add them to the bubble solution. Once they activated, the bubble solution started glowing a bright orange! That coupled … [Read more...]

We are a seriously modern multi-tasking family. What’s Your Sport? | Jockey Shaping Crop Legging Review

Jockey_LOGO

Jockey, the leading maker of sport- and active-wear, wants to know how you wear their brand and what your sport is. From walking to triathlon training, Jockey offers something for everyone. In fact, their new Sport Shaping Crop Legging is perfect for moms like me - multi-taskers! I've been wearing the new Jockey Shaping Crop Leggings a few times over the last couple of weeks and I really, really like them. They're comfortable to wear versatile enough for all the things I do in a day - whether it's yoga or grocery shopping. The pant has built-in mesh panels and the "shaping" part of it helps smooth and slim. I do feel leaner when I wear these leggings, though I do suggest if you buy a pair to buy a size smaller. I opted for a larger size than I thought I needed because I just wasn't sure - I thought because it would be a "shaping" pant it would be tight. I don't feel that way at all - I actually feel like I would like them to be a bit tighter as the are a little loose and I pull them … [Read more...]

Take the Wat-aah! Challenge ~ We did!

Baby Challenge rev

This year Emma and I accepted the Wat-aah! Challenge and made a little video chronicling our experience. As a Wat-aah! Challenge participant, we were asked to put the new lunchbox-friendly 10-ounce sized bottles of Wat-aah! in our fridge next to our kids' normal lunch drink and see which one they choose to take in their lunch. On this particular morning, as you will see in the video, Emma chose Wat-aah! and after school we had a little chat about whether or not she liked it! Fair warning - we were pretty "whispery" in the beginning because it was early morning and the rest of the house was sound asleep! Plus, listen for how she pronounces Wat-aah! It kills me. Emma is a funny girl. She took the "pink" Wat-aah! (the BODY version, made with pure spring water) to school but didn't care for it because she didn't think it tasted like water. *This is me scratching my head* Her friends at school, though, thought her Wat-aah! was pretty cool. Emma did, however, like the "blue" Wat-aah! … [Read more...]

Are you keeping your eyes and ears peeled for the hot new toys this fall? One of them is FyrFlyz and I've got all the details for you! FyrFlyz are an easy-to-use precision balance lighted toys. By simply swinging the two strings and applying tension or allowing slack, you can create a continuous movement of multi-color light shapes from rings, to figure eights and more! My girls, ages 2 and 7, love to play with FyrFlyz and playing with them usually means going into a darkened room, because that's where FyrFlyz look the coolest! We particularly like Blue Angel because it has multi-color lights and looks, according to Emma, "the most awesome." I have a special place in my heart for FyrFlyz, actually. My two-year-old daughter has apraxia of speech, so I'm constantly working with her on learning to talk. She loves to play with FyrFlyz so much and because of that she's learned to say "twirl" and "pull" (well, her version of "twirl" and "pull"). Here's a fun little video of us in … [Read more...]

My Mom Style Icon | Mother’s Day Book Review

My Mom Style Icon

When I was a kid I was totally embarrassed by the way my mom dressed. Well, I was embarrassed of my mom in general. There was no way she was ever cool, I was convinced. As I matured, I realized a lot of things about my mom, one of them being that she actually had a life before I came along. And that she was fashionable and beautiful and...gulp...that I wanted her clothes and hairstyles and accessories. I have been a fan of the blog My Mom The Style Icon for a long time now. It's a fascinating photo blog put together by Pier Weiss featuring reader submitted photographs of moms from "back in the day" when they were real women and not just moms. I even submitted a photo of my mom wearing, of all things, an orange jumpsuit. Just in time for Mother's Day, Chronicle Books has recently released My Mom Style Icon by Piper Weiss, featuring photos and stories collected from her blog, celebrating moms and their fabulous style ~ you know, when they were the ones posing and being … [Read more...]

Simple Garden | Review & Giveaway (3 Winners!)

Screen shot 2011-04-21 at 11.03.25 PM

In honor of Earth Day and the promotion of living a more sustainable, green lifestyle, I am excited to introduce you to a literal simple container gardening method, appropriately called Simple Garden. Recently featured on The Today Show, it's perfect for so many things, not the least of which is starting your own vegetable and herb garden, which is exactly what I did! Since we moved to Texas, I lament very much that I didn't take better advantage of the box garden I had in the beautiful backyard of our home in California. Here, we have a little tiny grass area, maybe 12 x 12 feet, which is okay for the kids to play in, but there's really no room for growing a garden. I searched online for a solution, and I came upon Simple Garden from Fertile Earth. Simple Garden Starter Kit There are a few things, I think, that keep people from starting their own garden. One, of course, is space, and the other is know-how. It can be overwhelming to figure out what to plant and when, where to … [Read more...]

Lalaloopsy | Review & Giveaway

Lalaloopsy Jewel Sparkles

I have one of the girliest girls for a daughter. When faced with a selection of Lalaloopsy Dolls, she immediately went for Jewel Sparkles ~ the princess of the bunch. I tried to talk her into Tippy Tumblelina (the resident ballerina of Lalaloopsy Land), or Blossom Flowerpot (one of the newer dolls, who happens to share a birthday with Earth Day), or even Pillow Featherbed (the one who's always ready for a slumber party), but, no, she insisted that Jewel Sparkles and her crown were meant to be her best friend. Lalaloopsy is a line of absolutely adorable dolls that look like rag dolls, with disproportionate bodies and floppy limbs, but are some of the sturdiest, most durable dolls around. Perhaps you've caught the commercials with the catchy theme-song? Have you wondered, "It's cute, but what does it do?!" Well, the possibilities are endless when it comes to the imagination of a little girl. Emma loves to go online and play in Lalaloopsy Land or with the Lalaloopsy app on my iPhone. I … [Read more...]
