This coming weekend marks the end of Daylight Savings Time and, so important to this mom, one extra hour of sleep as we “fall back” an hour on our clocks! It’s also a good time to look around your home and measure your safety and preparedness measures.
As it is always suggested, take the two times a year that the majority of this country changes our clocks as an opportunity to check the batteries in your fire and carbon monoxide detectors. This year the time change is on November 4 and it also marks the 25th anniversary of the annual Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program. Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) are once again working with local fire departments nationwide to raise awareness on the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes. Energizer is honoring its 25th year by donating 250,000 batteries to fire departments across the country to distribute to local families in their areas and adopting 25 fire departments in 25 cities across the nation, who, in addition to batteries, will be equipped with a variety Energizer® family safety products for their department and to share in their communities.
Did you know that 38% of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24% occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries. While you’re changing those batteries, test them out and make sure they work!
As a major advocate for emergency preparedness, I also take this opportunity twice a year to go through our family’s 72-hr kits and use up items that might be expiring soon, checking batteries on flashlights or other electronic devices, and restocking them with season-specific clothes or other lifestyle items (for instance we are finally to the point where we no longer need diapers in our kits! Yayyyy!!).
From now through the end of Daylight Savings Time (November 4th) you can visit the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page and click on the Fire Safety Info Tab. There you will have the chance to enter a sweepstakes to a special Family Safety Kit – and Energizer is giving away one per day!
That said, I’m really excited to be able to offer a similarly amazing Family Safety Kit Prize Package from Energizer for one lucky reader right here on my blog! The prize includes all of the items pictured above! To enter to win, please follow the instructions on the Rafflecopter form below and let me know if you have any questions!
