There are so many great gift ideas for dads this Father’s Day. But what if dad isn’t a golfer, or a griller, or a handy-man? One thing dads are always good for is a good story. Whether they’re making it up or reading it to children or grandchildren, there’s something very special about that experience. For the dads in your life, near or far, new dads or grandparents ten times over, there’s a book fromMacmillan Children’s Publishing Group to honor him.
My Daddy Rules the World by Hope Anita Smith
Smith is both the poet and illustrator behind this lovely book of sweet moments that celebrate dad. I’m particularly touched that there is something relatable for everyone in these pages. “Told through the voice of a child, Anita Hope Smith’s My Daddy Rules the World collection of poems celebrates everyday displays of fatherly love, from guitar lessons and wrestling matches to bedtime stories, haircuts in the kitchen, and cuddling in bed. These heartwarming poems, together with bold folk-art-inspired images, capture the strength and beauty of the relationship between father and child.”
Daddies Are Awesome by Meredith Costain and illustrated by Polona Lovšin
A few important things to note about this short, sweet book: My 7 year old daughter was thrilled to read it. She loved Mommies are Amazing so much and she couldn’t wait to read this one as well. Second, because the book is told through pictures of daddy dogs and their pups, there’s some fun play on words here, and my daughter and her daddy read the book and laughed and laughed over this part:
It has been so fun to hear them smile and laugh through this sweet book. It proves you’re never too old for board books!
Saturday with Daddy by Dan Andreasen
A simple and fun picture book about all the ways it’s fun to be with dad on a weekend. Like s’mores and hammocks!
Daddy Depot by Chana Stiefel and illustrated by Andy Snair
I love the idea of this book! I remember wishing I could trade my parents in for a new set. Little did I know how good I have it, and now I wouldn’t trade it for the world! There are lots of dads out there, but none that love you the way your dad does. “Lizzie loves her dad, but he tells the same old jokes, falls asleep during story time, and gets distracted by football while Lizzie does her ballet twirls. When she sees an ad for a store called Daddy Depot, she decides to check it out—and finds dads of all kinds! Will Lizzie find the perfect dad? Join her on this sweet and silly adventure that celebrates fathers with lots of love.”
