I am having a tough time Christmas shopping for my little two-year old Abby. She suffers from what we like to call “Little Sister Syndrome.” Because she gets toy and clothes hand-me-downs, she never really, truly needs anything – she has all the age-appropriate toys already thanks to her big sister having already been there, done that (plus the fact that I held on to them all these years). If you are in my position with a hard-to-buy-for child, you’ll definitely want to keep reading because I have found a solution!
Xia-Xia are energetically fun, colorful hermit crabs that appeal to kids of any age or gender. Perhaps you’ve had the privilege of seeing the infectious commercials, or you’ve heard your kids calling out, “Mom, I want that!”? Xia-Xia currently come in four different characters, Bimini, Trinidad, Turks, and Tobago, and each has their own bright, unique, and removable shell, with a little friend hiding inside. Additional shells are sold separately, and each come with two more friends. The little friends of the Xia-Xia can ride inside their shells or on top! The Xia-Xia crabs live in a tropical land that includes the Rio de Trio Village, Copacaband Playset, and the Confetti Cottage (each sold separately). The Xia-Xia love to dance and play in their playsets!

Both my girls have loved playing with Xia-Xia, and for different reasons. Little Abby loves to watch them run around and laughs when they bump into each other or fall off of something (As a side note, Xia-Xia are not recommended for children under three. Use your best judgement moms!) My older daughter, Emma, loves interchanging the shells and making the Xia-Xia and their little friends play with each other. She really gives them all a personality and that makes it a lot of fun for us. Between the characters, their shells, their playsets, and their little friends, there is so many different ways to play and the fun can go on and on.
Xia-Xia is one of the toys featured on Toys R Us’ Hot Holiday Toy List for 2011! Have Xia-Xia in mind for someone this Christmas? The Xia-Xia crabs sell individually for around $12.99, while the interchangeable shells are sold for $6.99, and the playsets range in price from $14.99 to $21.99. You can find them at Walmart or Toys R Us!
